You may take a lot of them too. Because this can very useful if you want to show someone (e.g., your friend etc) what's on your desktop.

When you take a screenshot on your Mac – using the Shift-Command-3 shortcut to capture the whole screen, or Shift-Command-4 to capture a portion of it – the image files are saved straight to. Taking a screenshot involves the same process whether you have a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, or another Mac model. Capturing the entire screen can be accomplished by holding Command + Shift + 3. Screenshots are saved to the Desktop as PNG files with a filename in the format 'Screen Shot YYYY-MM-DD at H.MM.SS XM'.

  • Open the Terminal app
  • Enter the following command: screencapture ~/Desktop/macreports.jpg and press enter.
  • This command will create a screenshot named macreports.jpg and it will be saved to your desktop
